How it all started...
Nestled in the heart of Storden, Minnesota, LifePoint Community Church stands as a beacon of faith and perseverance. Our story begins in 1875, when Scandinavian immigrants founded the town, facing the challenges of a harsh and unpredictable environment. Despite the hardships, or perhaps because of them, the seeds of our church were sown during a time of great need.
In 1877, amidst a devastating famine brought on by a grasshopper plague, the Lord inspired a group of believers from a Danish Baptist Church in Clarks Grove to send missionaries to Storden. J.M. Nelson and Carl Jensen arrived with food for the starving residents and hearts full of Christ’s love. Their acts of kindness and commitment to sharing the Gospel quickly took root, leading to Bible studies and prayer meetings. By the fall of 1878, a formal church was established in the home of Soren Skouby, and in 1879, it was officially named The First Scandinavian Baptist Church, with J.M. Nelson as its first pastor.
The early church thrived on the generosity and dedication of its members. In 1883, a permanent church building was constructed, funded by eight families who raised and sold calves. As the congregation grew, the church moved to a new location in 1908, adopting the name The First Danish-Norwegian Baptist Church. Revival meetings brought a surge of new believers, and by the 1950s, membership reached an all-time high of 170.
